Back in the day, Final Fight was one of the first and best sidescroller beat-em-ups to come around (Besides Double Dragon, which was serverely outdated). Final Fight was the one that started it all. Numerous companies constantly cloned the gaming format and added new twists to the format until it all became a fad. Soon every beat-em-up was being referred to as a 'Final Fight' clone, but the sad truth was that there are very few games to ever come along and beat the classic Final Fights. There are more recent games with certain twists on the format such as Warriors of Fate, Aliens vs Predator and the Dungeons and Dragons series However, these series do not have the same hardcore street fighting as Final Fight captured. The only other series that ever captured this feeling was Streets of Rage 2. It wasn't until the beginning of the 3rd generation console systems (Playstation, Saturn) when the arcade goers began to reject these beat-em-ups. However, I feel that these games never really reached their potential considering the technology back then. 3D was just starting out and it was really blocky and awkward to control. It was sad to see one of my favourite genres go away, especially one with so much potential. However, times were changing. Now, it's about a good 5-7 years since then. Games like Dynamite Cop and Fighting Force tried to bring in a new flavour to an old format, but to me they never felt the same way. The controls were not tight enough and the polygons just don't fit in as well as well-drawn sprites. I think now is a perfect time for Capcom to relive a classic in full 2D. With better graphics available and perhaps new moves to develop, why not have a new Final Fight? Stider 2 got a new look with the added graphics and it was fun. However I was never a hardcore fan of the Strider series. And of course the fighting system needs to be improved drastically. Final Fight 2 and 3 were shames to the series (Falling under same "Final Fight Clone" category). I hope Capcom will do something to redeem the series. But thats just my own opinon i think aliens vs predator was a good contender to final fight . Anyone else think that? http://www.peyros.com/tags/PSXtag.gif Posted by Lv.32 Z-Ism Rose on 03:18:2001 09:05 PM: Alien vs Predator was a kickass game. Didn't get to play it much, though. The FF 'clone I thought was the best was Guardian Heroes for the Saturn. Beat the hell out of the thugs with regular moves, special moves, magic attacks. I think I'm gonna go play now... Posted by Aoishi2AL on 03:18:2001 09:21 PM: Rather Play Double Dragon. http://www.orochinagi.com/bb/avatars/Av_orochi1b.gif "You want me don't you..." Posted by olds on 03:19:2001 12:36 AM: Double dragon was one of the most over-hyped games in videogame history imho. Posted by MuD on 03:19:2001 12:51 AM: I agree. That game was good. It something thats been missing from games for a while: me and friends vs the computer. While i love to fight other people, sometimes its just fun to kill some computer controlled gang! It's what i grew up on, and it's something id like to do again. MuD MaD Posted by Aoishi2AL on 03:19:2001 12:53 AM: Double Dragon over hyped. Are u crazy? That game was fun. Didn't u ever beat your friends up in that game, or throw someone off a roof. Sure the graphics weren't the great, but the gameplay was tight. http://tagmonkey.homestead.com/files/AoishiTag3.gif "You want me don't you..." Posted by Maximum Burst on 03:19:2001 04:29 AM: Double Dragon and Final Fight are both great gaming series. I do belive that Double Dragon hit is max appeal with Double Dragon II. Final Fight, Double Dragon, The Simpsons, TMNT: The Arcade Game, Alien vs. Predator, Bad Dudes, and of course that console classic, Contra. NOW YOU FACE DOOM! http://www.dragonballmanga.hpg.com.br/gifs/gohangif1.gif Posted by Sekiria on 03:19:2001 08:29 AM: Contra wasn't a beat-em-up. It was a shooter. BattleToads was kinda like a beat 'em up. Posted by Bowling Pin on 03:19:2001 04:19 PM: Double Dragon's alright, but its all about Kunio-kun! Posted by xOMEGA_RUGALx on 03:19:2001 04:39 PM: Final Fight and Streets Of Rage 1 + 2 were two of the best side-scrollers ever made. Both had great playability - although Final Fight was a bit better in playability, but SOR 1 + 2 had some of the BEST techno music ever to grace a computer game. Also I think SOR2 had some of the finest bosses - although the Blanka clone is a carbon-copy... And I agree that 3D just DOESN'T do it...it's too 'slow'...Dynamite Deka was a pile of crud. Other good side-scrollers were The Punisher, Knights of the Round...all by the master Capcom. http://www.crosswinds.net/~vincentc/kofGoenitzAnimated.gif - "OROCHI? HA! Hes nothing compared to me!"
